Makesh Kaliyaperumal is a Chartered Engineer and works for Ricardo E&E as Principal Technical Consultant based in. Makesh has been working in the Power and Energy Industry for three decades and is currently engaged as lead Technical consultant on various EfW plants at differing scales. Initially, he worked in the industry as a Power Plant Commissioning Engineer with broad range of power and cogeneration plants firing Coal, Oil , Gas, HRSG, MSW, Agro waste and Petcoke firing on various steam raising plant technologies. Makesh moved into the Process Design Department within Thermax Babcock and Wilcox, India prior to joining Doosan Babcock Ltd, UK in 2010. Makesh worked as a Principal Engineer within Corporate Research and Development Institute (CRDI). Makesh background is in technical development and prior to joining REE he has been working on biomass conversions, combustion upgrades, low carbon technologies, carbon neutral and carbon negative technology design development such as Oxy-fuel and Carbon Capture.
Pippa is a Senior Consultant within the Waste and Resource Management team. She is a chartered chemical engineer with over 15 years’ experience in the petrochemical industry, with 10 of those years being focused on developing alternative solutions for various industrial waste streams. Specialist expertise includes the application of various technologies (such as anaerobic and aerobic digestion, co-firing waste in cement kilns, boilers, gasification, Fischer-Tropsch and incineration) to valorise waste. She has been involved with commercialisation programs for the testing and development of various technologies as well as the application thereof. She has experience in all aspects of project delivery (often performing the role of lead process engineer) including Front End Loading; pre-FEED and feasibility studies (value proposition identification); FEED and Detailed Design; Construction; Commissioning and Start-up.

Originally trained as a Chemist and in Chemical Engineering, Paul has spent over 30 years working internationally in the Energy and Environment fields for both the Public and Private Sector. His experience covers a wide range of themes including industrial emissions and industrial impact reduction, renewable energy technologies, projects & policy development and delivery, and he has specific expertise in waste-to-energy and biomass energy projects. As the author of the first EU “Best Available Techniques” Reference (BREF) document on thermal waste treatments (2006) he is well known internationally for his expertise in this area. Over the last 15 years he has worked on numerous projects for the development and implementation of waste and energy infrastructure, as an adviser to national and international governments & agencies, and developed leading international consulting businesses in these areas. He is the Chairman of the UK Chartered Institute of Wastes Management (CIWM) Special Interest Group on Thermal Waste Treatment and the author / co-author of papers on issues including low carbon energy and resources/waste management, a supervisor of university projects, and author of technical policy documents regarding national and international emission regulation.
